Never been there, but I watched a travel show featuring L.A. recently.

Word on the street is, L.A. has an underground train network that is unparraled in its efficency, cleanliness and safety. Tourists rarely use it, ensuring a near-empty carriage every time; also, there are armed guards patrolling every train. Tickets are cheap, and routes criss-cross the whole city.

Also, officials insist that Los Angleles trains cannot burst out through walls onto the road as happened in Speed.
