Have you managed to get other people into listening to The Doors?

So far I have converted my dad and my wife. My mum disapproves of some of the lyrics lol, but I think she likes the music.

Yes! Even as much as they teased me, my girls have a few songs on their IPod. Got my bfff to like them too. And a few others.

I got my youngest sister into them about 15 years ago, but I think she has long since abandoned them.

I've let people know I'm a fan of The Doors. I can't say I've ever successfully "rockevangelized" The Doors onto anyone. I got infected with The Doors when my sister gave me the Greatest Hits cassette - yes, a cassette tape - back in 1990. Until then I had rarely heard them because they didn't get enough airplay on my local radio stations. B)

Unfortunately in my heavy drinking days, (present) I made people sick of the Doors by listening to them so much.Posted Image

I've never tried to get people to become fans, it's just happened. I too got into them with the greatest hits cassette tape! 94 or 95 I think it was.

My wife has warmed up to them, but is still a bit tepid.

It is funny what some of my friends have said. One co-worker said she didn't like The Doors because Morrison has a deep voice. Can't please some people.

I think some people don't like The Doors because the music is "weird". I've heard that before.

My husband thinks they're dark and depressing.

LOL @ the low voice! That was a big drawcard for me initially.

My mother thought they were dark and depressing. I think having an open mind bypasses that. Posted Image

I am afraid I have failed badly with my family. Both wife and kids are sicked and tired of listening to the Doors (and all the other 60s blues boom stuff I'm into). Unfortunately, the more I play it, the more they hate it. But what's a Doors fan to do? If they can't be converted, they'll just have to suffer my obsession, right????

...well, i am not sure my story qualifies as someone "getting into" the doors, but i inadvertently made my boss, a quiet lady with gray hair, who can be a pain in the a** most days, listen to one of their raunchiest songs.

i was forced to go to lunch with the whole department and i was also forced to drive. out of habit i plugged my ipod into the car and build me a woman was on, but the one where jim is riffing and singing about lying in the grass thinking about some p***y and some good ol' rock and roll...

thank god she was in the back seat and apparently wasn't paying attention because she wanted to know why i turned off the radio? Posted Image

all i can say is thank you jim, where ever you are...

hmmmm. There is a line to walk between being a Doors fan and being a guy living alone, seeing kids and wife at weekends.

If I play When the Music's Over much more, I might end up as the latter!

No, never tried. I have though a few times brought up that I like The Doors. Reactions have been: I know someone that also likes them, I've seen The Doors movie, it's rare for people your generation to like that kind of music, my mother in my teens thought they were depressive and something that could be of negative influence.

What is interesting is that I like The Doors but there's a line drawn. I could be somewhat conservative since I do not want to take on the role nor the risk as an adult and lead a childs or teenage mind to The Doors. I would not want to be the one to intentionally introduce my nieces.

I've had better luck playing more obscure Doors songs when friends don't know it. E.g. Latino Chrome from An American Prayer. Everyone seems to really like the song the first time, and are surprised it is a Doors song.

These also seem to work:

- Queen of the Highway (Jazzy version)
- I will never be untrue (live Aquarius)
- Push Push Push

Songs that don't work:
- Not to Touch the Earth: this can scare people :-)
