Linda Ronstadt has a new book out apparently. In it, she describes an abbreviated date she went on with him, and - most disturbingly - implies he beat his girlfriend severely. In Jim Cherry's column today: http://www.examiner...._alerts_article

I don't know if I believe her. Of course, I don't want to think that Jim could abuse a woman like that. But also - and this may be an unfair judgement - Ronstadt doesn't seem very bright. She was a fine singer and had a remarkable career, but ... I don't know anything about her credibility, personality - nada. She could be mistaken, her memory could be faulty, we just don't know.

Good article. People do weird things when they're boozing. Things they don't even remember the next day. Either way, it's kind of sad, both the girlfriend and her date with him!
The future's uncertain
And the end is always near.

Cover and little part of article(this is photo number 8-intro for big size-) about Jim in "New York Scenes" magazine(May, 1969): http://www.ebay.com/...=item1c36b5c856
The article is of Mike Jahn(the first author of one biographie about The Doors-in 1969-).

Gosh, that article is so negative and angry - he is basically attacking Jim on a personal as well as artistic level.

That's the magazine I worked for for several months in the fall and winter of 1969, after Jann Wenner had bought it and revamped it considerably, letting most of the staff go in the process. I zoomed in and read the names on the masthead and only recognized Jeff Michaelson's.

I'm sure I met Mike Jahn, since most of the New York rock writers came by the office on a fairly regular basis (my boss the late Jan Hodenfield was Rolling Stone's New York bureau chief as well.)

I wasn't aware of this article either; in fact the only Jahn writing that I knew about was his book about Jim--the name of which also escapes me now. I borrowed it from somebody at Scenes and don't remember too much but it seems to me it was pretty good, and his opinion of Jim was favorable.

Guess he changed his mind...
I still believe in the Cosmic Giggle, even if Rolling Stone doesn't any more.
