Fans Who Go Too Far

04 December 2010 - 12:57 AM

Has anyone ever met a Doors fanatic (in the literal sense of the word), who took their obsession just too far?
I met a guy at a festival ,who was so obsessed with Jim and The Doors, that he started stalking the tribute band singer,
(because he said he "flicked his eyes, looking out of it" just for a second, ) like Jim did once apparently, according to him.
When he found out I knew the singer, this guy never stopped pestering me, asking ridiculous questions,
(even asking if the tribute singer lived his life like Jim, because he was so like him, and he even drank like him out of his glass, therefore being absolutely connected to, or part of Jim - no, really)
How could anyone even know how Jim drank ?
This guy had travelled 700 miles by bus, train and foot, over 3 days, to a foreign , unknown country, (he couldn't speak German) with his 12 yr old son and a tent, just to see this band, and just because of this so called similarity!
When a guy at the next table to us lit up a joint, and I suggested to this fan that he should maybe go and sit somewhere else with his son( to avoid seeing the drug and inhaling the fumes), he just said that his kid had been everywhere with him, had seen EVERYTHING imaginable, and he loved it!!
How shocking is that?
This lunacy apart, he actually seemed semi-normal when he wasn't talking about his hero! (HONESTLY!)
Totally gobsmacked! (British slang for shocked out your brain!)
Another thing I found SO weird, was when so many other fans would approach this singer off-stage, (saw it so many times) and 99% of them called him Jim !! (and I'm talking conversationally!)
"Can I have your autograph, Jim?!" Alright Jim?"
Ok, he looked like him a little bit - but really only from a good distance -what's that all about??

Little golden cups of sunlight nod,
Swirling flimsy butter-yellow skirts in the wind
Dipping deeply in a curtsey
To an unseen God
A rippling rush
Of whispering gold.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
In the pout of the lips,
The curve of a shoulder,
Fresh flesh of the young,
Beauty's elitist domain.
Eyes sparkling and huge,
Skin free from life's pain,
No creases or lumps,
A complexion of smooth porcelain,
Ageing the ultimate crime,
The real woman's shame
Beauty and youth are for sale,
Go under the knife, get some more
If Beauty is only skin deep,
Ugliness goes right down to the core,
Look 50 when you're 70,
No need to grow up or behave,
Perfect geriatric Barbies,
Pouting dead in the grave

Jim Morrison's Poetry - A Critical Analaysis

01 December 2010 - 11:58 PM

Came across this site which is meant to offer a critical analysis of Jim's poetry.
I don't know how accurate an analysis it actually is, but found it nevertheless interesting... hope you do too!
